FISHING?!?

At the beginning of November something strange happened around our house. I don't know if I mentioned this or not so here it goes.
Back on November 4th I was home folding laundry and putting it away. I had just put towels away in the main bathroom before the kids came home from school. Samuel rushes in the door and heads for the bathroom. He turns around and comes rushing back to the front room and exclaims to me, "MOM what's all that dirt doing in the bathroom?" I replied, "What dirt?" I had just been in the bathroom moments before. So I proceeded back to the bathroom and this is what I found.

I immediately thought we had termites. The closer I looked the more I realized that we had something OH SO MUCH BIGGER! Michael came home from work and discovered that we had dirt piled up between the wall and tub. Off to the Internet Michael and I went to see what we might have on our hands. Through our extensive research we came to the expert conclusion that we had a MOLE or a GOPHER. This little, or shall I say BIG, critter was tunneling under our foundation and coming up at the bathroom........

So Michael went dirt fishing! This is his prize catch!
A GOPHER!!!!!!!
We set a trap in the bathroom; but no such luck. On Thanksgiving Michael was playing football in the backyard and discovered a new mound. He dug a hole and found THREE tunnels! So he chose the newest looking tunnel and set another trap. Covered it back up and let it sit for three days. On Monday morning he went out to check it, lo and behold he caught it! We had to take a picture since he had put in some many hours of trying to hunt this animal down!
He was so ecstatic!

Holy Cow! Who knew gophers could tunnel into a house. That was a huge amount of dirt. Good thing we have husbands to take care of those unpleasant things.

Was he going crazy like Bill Murray in Caddy Shack? That's insane! Glad you caught it!

I can't believe that gopher was able to go through all that and leave that much dirt!! I would have been freaking out! I bet you're relieved to catch it! It's been so nice to not have to worry about rats in my attic since leaving TX!!
